From: gilset@aol.com (Gilset) Subject: Re: Nap Swiss Uniform question Date: Thu, 5 Mar 98 23:01:25 CDT What colors were the horse furniture for the Colonel of the regiment (1812)? According to lovely pics in Regiments Suisses au Service de France, J.-R. Bory, Editions de la Matze 1975 (Swiss), the officer's horse furniture in 1810 were simple square saddle-cloths with single wide lace bands, and fur holster-covers. The colors are as follows: 1st rgt, red with silver band; 2d regt, dark blue with gold band; 3d rgt, black with silver band, and 4th regt light blue (the facing color) witth gold band. The fur holster covers are all black, except for the 3d regt one which could be dark brown. An officer of the Battalion Valaisan is shown with a scarlet (uniform color) saddle-cloth with a gold band. Can't help you as to whether Swiss drummers wore imperial livery in 1812; there's a pic of a tambour-maitre of the battalion Neuchatel in a green laced coat which could be imperial livery.
