Software Ports to IRIX
Introduction
I maintain ports of many packages for SGI internal use. Those that make
sense (to me) I'll make available to the outside world as a courtesy. For
the most part, they are only built on current releases of IRIX (this means
5.3 and 6.2), although some may run on older releases, and all of the newer
ones should run on 6.3 and 6.4. The newer ones are now built as part of
SGI's Freeware project, and some of these versions are newer than what is
on the Freeware CDs.

Available Packages
- GNU Emacs-19 packages for IRIX-4.0.5, IRIX-5.x, and IRIX-6.x
- gzip, the GNU compress replacement.
Gzip is a part of IRIX starting with 6.2, and was part of the
Netscape package for 5.3.
- perl5: "Perl, the next generation".
- xntp: the NTP time protocol daemon.
That's it for right now...
The SGI Freeware Project is currently being revamped to make the
software available in a more timely manner. It will take some time to
happen, since the Freeware project is performed mostly on a "free-time"
basis... Check out this link to the "official"
Freeware distribution site (as official as Freeware gets, anyway...).
