August Meeting.

Friday the 4th of August was a dark, cold but not rainy night to go out for a meeting, and over 50 were in attendance, with only 45 signing the book

Simon Gardiner brought his highly developed Sprite racer along to display, and accompanied this with a comprehensive slide show to accompany a well presented and interesting talk. In fact heavy lifting equipment was needed to get him to stop talking so we could eat our fish and chips supper and go home!

The consensus was that we should have got him started about 4 in the afternoon, and let him go to midnight or later if required, such was the level of interest and Simons willingness to share his knowledge and experience.

There were also some exhibits of works in progress such as a second 16 valve DOHC A-Series head, and what had turned out to be a dead end, the ‘odd fire crank’

Everyone was impressed with the amazing detail and painstaking planning, revision, and re-planning which has gone on over more than a decade to reach todays point.

Scary note for Sprite Developers: Simon has a head full of further ideas to be built and tested on the car in the future!

The routine part of the evening saw a commendably rapid general meeting, and as an innovation we had 2 raffles, the first you entered at no cost if you were wearing club gear.

This was so popular that we may need to raise the bar to 2 items of club gear in future, and remember we KNOW there are no AHSDC underpants, or even give a bonus for arriving in a Sprite.

In any case the winner of the wine was Bob Lomas. This is brilliant news because he can never again say he hasn’t won a raffle! Now will someone PLEASE find him some cracked or broken stub axles to buy! The second raffle prize a selection of Penrite products was won by one of our visitors Gavin McHugh, a luminary of the MG Club

Thanks Simon!
