Is She Dating Matthew Barney Yet?

Orlan is a French performance artist whose canvas is her face; she undergoes plastic surgery to transform herself into various historical beauties and exhibits the grisly leftovers from each operation as part of her installations. Her main website is in French. Here's a site in English which explains her various oeuvres and also contains some disturbing photographs of her under the knife.

I think she's got some sort of Bride of Frankenstein/Soccer Mom thing happening there.

This link would've been handy a couple of years ago when I wrote a college essay on Orlan... (back when Post modernism was fashionable) :)

Yeah, I guess we're all just post-post modernists nowadays, Lili.
When I was in college, I wrote an art history essay on Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable and the Velvet Underground. It was extremely frustrating trying to dig up anything in the school's library of periodicals and microfiche, so I wound up cribbing a bunch of stuff from old articles by Lester Bangs in Creem Magazine, and making bogus references to hide them. Luckily, my professor didn't check too thoroughly!

ha ha. Collecting references from magazines is fun esp. when professors have no way of checking. I used to do that too :)
