A Night In Shallow Alto

My trip to the Bay Area has been going great so far. It's not exactly warm and sunshiney here, but it sure beats the single digit temps and snow back home. I've been enjoying the variety of different foods and spending time with friends that I haven't seen for quite a while.
Last night, my pal M and I drove to Palo Alto and had a fantastic Cuban dinner at La Bodeguita. I passed on their famous Mojitos in favor of a Cuban Sidecar...a mistake...but I wasn't disappointed by the Empanadas or roasted pork with black beans.
Afterwards, we went to see The Triplets of Belleville, a sweetly bizarre animated French film that contained heavy doses of early Max Fleischer surrealism combined with a distinctly Gallic sense of humor. I loved it. If you've got a fast connection, view the Quicktime trailer to see what I'm talking about.

I LOVED Triplets of Belleville. Amazing caricatures/character designs. Amazing animation!

Yes, it clearly was a labor of love. Every frame of animation was packed with incredible detail, and their use of cgi was so subtle as to be virtually undetectable.
I forgot to mention that the Disney/Dali collaboration Destino was on the same bill. Also wonderful.
